Report: Ed Orgeron will get LSU job if Tom Herman declines

It looks like the next LSU football coach will be either Ed Orgeron or Houston’s Tom Herman.

Reports surfaced on Thursday that the Tigers were zeroing in on Herman as the next head coach. Then after LSU steamrolled Texas A&M in its regular-season finale, the players filmed themselves chanting “Keep Coach O!

So what happens with two candidates who have support at the university?

According to Ross Dellenger of the Advocate, Orgeron and Herman are the finalists for the job. While Herman is LSU’s preference, if he decides to accept the Texas job or ultimately returns to Houston, we will see the university remove Orgeron’s interim label to make him the next head coach.

Orgeron has reportedly laid out a long-term plan if he was to become head coach, which could involve bringing over offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin from Alabama to run the LSU offense.

It will certainly be an interesting situation to watch play out, and with LSU, Texas and Houston all finishing their regular seasons by the end of the day on Friday, we could have a resolution by the end of the weekend.
