Everyone’s favorite jiu jitsu star and women’s mixed martial arts project, Mackenzie Dern, is enjoying some free time after bursting onto the MMA scene earlier this year with Legacy Fighting Championships.
Dern is the world’s top female BJJ black belt competitor by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), and trained with former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson at The MMA Lab for her debut earlier this year.
In that debut, Dern scored a unanimous decision victory. In Dern’s second outing in the cage, she earned a remarkable omaplata/rear-naked choke finish.
Now Dern, who grew up traveling between Arizona and Brazil with her father, Wellington “Megaton” Dias, is back in Brazil kicking back on the sunny beaches of Arpoador in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro.
By the looks of things, the downtime for Dern is going well and she’s reminding us that it’s always bunny in Rio.
You have to love Brazil.
There is no word on when Dern will be returning to the Legacy cage for her next bout.
