Freshman forward Willie Jackson is set to transfer from the Missouri basketball program due to a family issue, the university announced on Thursday.
A statement from the university said a “family medical situation” has led to Jackson wanting to transfer closer to home.
“Willie Jackson has made the Mizzou Men’s Basketball program aware of his intentions to continue his academic and athletic pursuits closer to home,” the Tigers added. “We understand Willie has a desire to be closer to his family due to a family medical situation, so his decision has our support.”
Jackson is from Cleveland, Ohio.
“I really appreciate the opportunity that Mizzou gave me, and I enjoyed my time in Columbia, but my family needs me closer to home, at this point.” Jackson said in a statement of his own. “I am thankful for everything that Mizzou’s coaching staff has done for me, and I will always be cheering for my teammates in the future.”
This season, Jackson is averaging 5.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and .4 assists per game.
Jackson has appeared in 11 games.
