Report: Notre Dame hires Memphis OC Chip Long to same position

The Notre Dame football program has reportedly found its next offensive coordinator.

On Friday afternoon, Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports reported the Fighting Irish have hired Memphis offensive coordinator Chip Long to the same position.

Long reportedly has agreed to a three-year contract in South Bend.

Before joining Memphis, Long had spent time on the coaching staffs at Arizona State, Illinois, Arkansas and Louisville.

Most recently, Long led the No. 16 offense in the nation at Memphis, despite having to replace Paxton Lynch, who was selected by the Denver Broncos in the first-round of the NFL Draft earlier this year.

Along with being a great offensive mind, Long is viewed as one of the top recruiters in the nation.

The hiring seems like a major win for the Fighting Irish who will be looking to bounce back next season after a disappointing 4-8 campaign in 2016.
