Alabama is currently listed as a 6.5 point favorite to win the National Championship over the Clemson Tigers. With that said, it’s clear that those placing early bets love the value of Clemson against the spread on Jan. 9 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Of the first $11,020 placed on the big game, $11,000 of that money has been placed on Clemson.
“Twenty bucks on Alabama,” said Westgate SuperBook assistant manager Ed Salmons, according to theScore.com.
Both teams looked excellent in their College Football Playoff semifinal games, but Clemson was clearly a cut above a talented Ohio State team. Stifling the Buckeyes in every phase of the game, the Tigers punched their ticket with a 31-0 victory in the Fiesta Bowl. A
labama was impressive against a clearly under matched Washington team as well, but with a +200 value for a straight-up win for Clemson, people are placing their hard-earned Dabo Sweeney’s squad.
Deshaun Watson might struggle to shred the defense in the same way, as Alabama is much faster and more talented on that side of the ball. But if he is able to do just enough, the Clemson defense should be able to shut down a Jalen Hurts led Tide offense and make a pretty penny for a lot of people.
Kickoff between the No. 1 Crimson Tide and No. 2 Tigers is set for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
