ESPN's Brent Musburger praises Joe Mixon, then doubles down

ESPN play-by-play announcer Brent Musburger had a regrettable night on the mic.
Early in the Allstate Sugar Bowl matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners and Auburn Tigers, Musberger praised Sooners running back Joe Mixon, who violently struck a woman during an incident in 2014.
Mixon seemed to ignore the disturbing video which surfaced last month, while showering the rusher with compliments.
“He’s just one of the best, and let’s hope, given a second chance by Bob Stoops and Oklahoma, let’s hope this young man makes the most of his chance and goes on to have a career in the National Football League,” Musberger said.

As you would expect, those comments drew plenty of backlash on social media as people were disgusted with Musberger for downplaying the seriousness of the issue.
But if that wasn’t bad enough, Musberger doubled-down on his praise after noticing the negative attention his comments received.
Let’s just say Musberger’s attempt at an apology was equally as embarrassing.

Oof.
Don’t expect the criticism of Musberger for those comments to end anytime soon.
