Bobby Bowden tells a painfully awkward joke about earrings on 'Mike and Mike'

Bobby Bowden will forever be revered by the Florida State fanbase for everything he meant to their program. Leading the Seminoles in the era of their dominance, Bowden built powerhouse football teams by recruiting kids in poor neighborhoods who needed an opportunity to provide a better life for themselves and their families.
While attempting to promote his new book on the ‘Mike and Mike’ show on ESPN, Bowden talked about the lack of a father figure in many of the homes where he recruited his talent.
It isn’t a stretch to say that Bowden did what he could to be the male role model in the lives of these young men, which is certainly noble, but then he stuck his foot in his mouth big time.
Bowden immediately received negative backlash for his comments below:

Did he say something that will cause a firestorm of backlash? Probably not. But he likely won’t be selling out Madison Square Garden with those jokes either. Golic and Greenberg either didn’t realize that was a joke, or were terribly uncomfortable in the moments following the comment.
The silence was deafening.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d think that joke was a Bobby Bowden game winning field goal attempt: No good.
