Shannon Sharpe: McGregor can now demand $25 million per fight

It’s no secret that Conor McGregor wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. What once seemed like a dream fight, something that had to be prefaced by saying could you imagine if…, seems like it might become a reality.
McGregor recently obtained a boxing license in California and has been trading verbal shots in the media with Mayweather.
Mayweather, who has a track record of dodging fighters when they are in their prime, wants a guaranteed nine-figure deal for the fight though. That could be a sticking point.
Dana White, whose business savvy helped build the UFC brand which was sold for $4 billion in 2016, has made an offer. He offered each fighter $25 million and a cut of the pay-per-view earnings, which could make this the most lucrative fight in the company’s history.

Is Dana White wheeling-and-dealing? Or did he just give Conor McGregor a ton of negotiating power for his next fight?
According to Shannon Sharpe of FOX Sports, all the chips are in McGregors possession now.

If I’m Conor McGregor, I say I appreciate that Dana White because for the longest time you told me and you told everybody that would listen and every fight fan in the UFC, Ronda Rousey is the biggest draw. You just went on television or you went on radio and said ‘Conor McGregor is the ‘A’ side’,” Sharpe said.  “So whether I fight Floyd Mayweather or not, it’s going to cost you $25 million plus a back end part of the pay-per-view going forward.
That’s all he’s done. Conor McGregor’s going to double down now. I want to talk to you about a piece, but going forward it’s $25 million for me to step into the ring and then we’ll negotiate the back end on pay-per-view buys. Because if I’m the ‘A’ guy, I don’t really need Floyd. Because I’m the ‘A’ guy. People are coming to see me.

McGregor wouldn’t likely be able to command a sum like that for UFC. Who would he fight that is as big as Floyd Mayweather? Who do people want to see as much as they want to see Mayweather get knocked out? There isn’t anyone.
Will the super-fight happen? Who knows, but probably not. Mayweather was able to keep Manny Pacquiao at bay for years; long enough for his skill to degrade and force everyone to watch a three-hour snoozer of a fight.
