Alabama Football Players Ate More Than $500,000 In Unlimited Meals

Alabama football players definitely know how to eat.

A few years ago, the NCAA ruled scholarship athletes were allowed to enjoy unlimited meals. This week, the University of Alabama revealed the expenses for the unlimited food and the stunning amount was nearly $1 billion.

In total, the Alabama athletic department shelled out $838,187 for meals, according to al.com.

The football team accounted for nearly two-thirds of that total, with the Crimson Tide players running up a bill of $512,656 in free food.

That’s a total of $6,031 per athlete.

When you bring in as much revenue as the football program does though, you deserve to eat to your heart’s desire.

And let’s be real, they’re college kids and Division I athletes. Can you really blame them?

The al.com report also shows that men’s teams out ate the women’s teams by a large margin, $677,088 compared to $161,099.
