LSU football coach Ed Orgeron has publicly backed Danny Etling to quarterback his Tigers this upcoming season. According to Orgeron, Etling “has had an excellent offseason,” according toDavid Ching of ESPN, and is asserting himself as the leader of the team.
Etling took over the team last year and performed well. He threw for 2,100 yards and 11 touchdowns, as the Tigers turned things around under Orgeron.
While Orgeron was complimentary of likely field general, he also had high praise for one of his younger quarterbacks, Lindsey Scott:
“He’s very smart, he can run the ball, he’s strong, throws the ball well. He’s going to be right up there in the competition. He is a good quarterback.”
Barring injury, it is Etling’s job to lose.
After starting his career at Purdue, Etling transferred to an even more competitive school, usually the opposite of what most players do.
It appears to be paying off, as he stands as the incumbent starter for the Tigers this season.
The Tigers also have 2015 three-star recruit Justin McMillan on the roster, as well as Lowell Narcisse who is currently recovering from an ACL injury.
