Ohio State Spring Game To Feature Lou Holtz, Phil Knight As Guest Coaches

The Ohio State Spring Game is going to have some extra star power, after head coach Urban Meyer reached out to two of his good friends.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Hall of Fame coach Lou Holtz and NIKE Inc. Chairman Emeritus Phil Knight will appear at Ohio Stadium for the Spring Game on April 15 to serve as guest coaches.

“I am very close to each of these individuals and I have enjoyed their friendship over many years,” Meyer said in a statement, “but even more I respect the impact they have had on Ohio State and college football. I am looking forward to having Coach Holtz and Phil Knight on our campus as guest coaches, and I am very appreciative they want to take part in and support our spring game.”

You don’t have to dig too deep to see the connections between Meyer, Holtz and Knight.

Prior to his first-ever head coaching gig, Meyer was hired to serve as wide receivers coach at Notre Dame under Lou Holtz. Meyer held that position from 1996-2000, before heading to Bowling Green to serve as the head coach.

As for Knight, the Buckeyes and Nike have a longstanding relationship. Ohio State and Nike currently have a sponsorship deal through 2033.

Kickoff for the April 15 Spring Game is set for 12:30 p.m. ET.
