San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon could be set for a head coaching job.
According to reports, the 40-year-old WNBA assists leader is poised to become the next coach of the Florida Gators women’s basketball team.
SB Nation’s Mike Robinson was first to report the news.
Hammon previously become the first full-time female assistant to earn a job in the NBA, and now could be joining the head coaching ranks. She is expected to interview for the Gators vacancy in the coming days.
During her 15-year career as a player, Hammon was a six-time WNBA All-Star, two-time WNBA Fist Team honoree and ranked as one of the top 15 players in the league’s history. Her No. 25 jersey was retired by the San Antonio Stars.
Florida fired longtime coach Amanda Butler after ten seasons earlier this month.
