The Miami football program’s 2019 recruiting class took a bit of a hit on Monday when the No. 1 cornerback, Akeem Dent, decommitted from the Hurricanes.
Dent, who is part of the class of 2019 and still several years away from seeing any playing time at the collegiate level announced that he will be reopening his recruitment. He made his announcement on Twitter with a brief statement.
“After much time in thought I will be re-opening my recruitment by announcing my decommitment from the University of Miami,” Dent wrote.
Dent is a big, physical cornerback who stands an imposing 6-foot 1, weighing 170-pounds. With power and speed, his status as the top cornerback in the country will likely not be challenged between now and when it comes time to make a firm commitment.
With so much time left for Dent to play in college, there was really no reason for him to have made his commitment so early. He currently holds offers from Auburn, Florida State, and Georgia to name a few.
Should he decide to recommit to the University of Miami, they will be happy to have him.
But for now, Dent will enjoy the process of recruitment and watch the letters of interest from schools around the country pour in.
