If Jalen Hurts starts head-butting his tight ends after connecting with them for a touchdown, we know why.
The arrival of Brian Daboll as part of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s coaching staff has means that the players have access to an NFL caliber offensive coordinator with a proven track record.
It also means, because of who his previous employer was, that they get to FaceTime with some of the titans of industry.
Daboll, who served as the Patriots tight-ends coach last season, has made the reigning NFL champions an available resource for current Crimson Tide prospects.
“We always FaceTime Gronkowski and Tom Brady, whoever it is,” Hurts said. “[Daboll’s] cool, he’s laid back.”
Hurts took Alabama to the near-apex of the college football world. The Tide couldn’t seal the deal, though, and ultimately fell victim to Deshaun Watson and the Clemson Tigers in the National Championship.
Perhaps now with G.O.A.T. Tom Brady in his contacts, he’ll have a little more guidance on how to close out and deliver the goods.
Daboll is expected to bring his uptempo, pass-happy offense to Alabama. While Saban has been critical of up-tempo offenses in the past, he’s proven that he is willing to adapt his offensive if it means success.
