Masters 2017: Dustin Johnson May Miss Tourney After Falling Down Stairs

Dustin Johnson has set the stage for one of the gutsiest performances in Masters history.

That, or he’s going to be super bummed watching it on TV.

On Wednesday, Dustin Johnson injured his lower back after falling down the stairs. His status to compete in the tournament is tentative while he gauges the severity of the injury.

Johnson will undoubtedly do everything in his power to get his body right ahead of the tournament. Even if he can play, though, he won’t be at full capacity and his abilities will be diminished. Tough blow for a golfer who was having the best year of his career so far.

Fortunately, he doesn’t tee of until 2:03 pm on Thursday, allowing a full 24 hours to recover.

In only three months, Johnson already has three tournament victories under his belt, and is currently ranked no. 1 in the world. His apparent back injury will make it difficult to play to his strengths, though. Johnson is typically able to drive the ball long distances, a capacity that the film Happy Gilmore is greatly affected by back injuries.

VW on the green or stairs in the afternoon, back injuries are no laughing matter for a golfer attempting win the sports most prestigious tournament. Hopefully he is able to fully recover and give the fans a show tomorrow.
