AJ McCarron Opening Sushi Restaurant In Tuscaloosa With A Punny Name

Former Alabama football star AJ McCarron is getting into the food business.

It was announced last month that McCarron is set to open a new sushi restaurant in his old stomping grounds of Tuscaloosa, and this weekend we learned more information on the venture.

The restaurant, with a clever name — AJian Sushi — will be located on 1914 University Blvd.

There’s even a nice little logo to go along with the punny name.

What can you expect at the restaurant?

“You walk into our fast-casual atmosphere and you’ll design your own roll every time,” said Pete Zimmer, co-owner and main operator of Ajian Sushi, via The Crimson White.

“At the hit of a button we’ll have white or brown rice, and from there you’ll pick your proteins, vegetables, toppings and sauces for close to $8 a roll.”

But there’s going to be some bizarre options, too, like a flaming hot Cheeto roll.

After spending 30 years in the restaurant business, Zimmer hopes to offer both the usual and unusual rolls one might expect from a classic sushi bistro. Ajian Sushi will maintain the traditional proteins like smoked salmon and spicy tuna, but will also provide options like the flamin’ hot Cheeto roll, peanut butter and jelly roll and the banana and Nutella roll for more daring customers.

Hopefully McCarron is successful in his new venture, because he’s off to a brilliant start with the marketing.
