The internet is buzzing following the release of Kendrick Lamar’s new album “DAMN.” But while much of the discussion is centered around Lamar’s latest work, there are some who believe another album titled “NATION” is about to drop on Sunday.
Sure, at first the theories may seem crazy, but when you really start to dissect the clues throughout the album, there is a strong reason to believe more music could be on the way.
“DAMN” was released on Good Friday and there are many references to Christianity throughout. Good Friday is the day that Jesus was crucified, before resurrecting on Easter — the believed date for the rumored “NATION” album. Kendrick’s latest album begins an ends with a gunshot, which has people believing this is signifying his “death” before he returns on Sunday.
There are also letters on the back album cover that hang out from the tracklist against a white background. Theory has it that is an anagram for “Earth led 2 death.” Another possible clue.
But wait, there’s more.
Just check this out from The Verge:
Another “clue” is a line from “The Heart Part IV,” a one-off single that Lamar released at the end of March: “I said it’s like that, dropped one classic, came right back / ‘Nother classic, right back / My next album, the whole industry on a ice pack / With TOC, you see the flames / In my E-Y-E’s; it’s not a game.”
Internet sleuths have decided that “TOC” stands for “The Other Color.” The first track on Damn is called “Blood,” and the album’s title appears in red. In this case, the other color would be blue (which some have pointed out could be a reference to Crip gang members). Last night, Kendrick changed his Spotify profile picture from one where he’s standing in front of a red wall, to one where he’s standing in front of a blue wall.
Then there is this bit of mystery from producer Sounwave, who worked on DAMN and is the producer for Lamar’s TDE label.
That’s Morpheus from The Matrix. If you recall, he notably discussed the red pill and blue pill during the film. This further backs up “the other color” theory.
Is it possible that Kendrick has a big reveal up his sleeve for Sunday? If he does, you know it will be worth the wait.
