With UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping on the sidelines, the promotion has moved the division forward by booking Yoel Romero vs. Robert Whittaker for UFC 213.
On Tuesday night, the UFC announced the top-ranked middleweight contenders will meet in the July 8 co-main event for the interim title. The event is headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between champion Amanda Nunes and Valetina Shevchenko.
UFC 213 takes place July 8 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of International Fight Week.
It was an obvious booking, with both men lacking an opponent and undoubtedly deserving a title shot for their recent success in the division.
The UFC had initially planned for Bisping to defend his belt against a returning Georges St-Pierre at the event, but GSP pushed his timetable back to the fall.
As soon as that news was announced, the UFC chose to push forward, giving everyone a fight between two of the most deserving contenders under the promotional banner.
The current UFC 213 fight card can be seen below:

|Yoel Romero vs. Robert Whittaker||Interim middleweight title|
