CNN has ended its relationship with Kathy Griffin following Tuesday’s gruesome photoshoot that depicted the comedian holding up a severed Donald Trump head.
The photo drew immediate backlash from Republicans and Democrats alike, before Griffin issued an apology.
Despite that apology, Griffin’s agreement to host the network’s New Year’s Eve special has been terminated. CNN announced the news on social media Wednesday afternoon.
Griffin had previously hosted the New Year’s Eve show alongside Anderson Cooper, who almost immediately distanced himself from Griffin’s disturbing photoshoot.
“For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate,” Cooper wrote in a brief statement on his official Twitter account.
In a statement yesterday, CNN said it was currently evaluating its plans for the network’s New Year’s coverage, so there is no word on who will fill in for Griffin or whether the network will ultimately decide to go with a different hosting duo.
If we had a vote, we’d go with Brooke Baldwin and Drunk Don Lemon.
