Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry West is not very fond of LaVar Ball.
During an appearance this week on “The Dan Patrick Show,” West discussed the antics of UCLA basketball star Lonzo Ball’s father, when he gave the scathing remark, “I wouldn’t want a father like that.”
West pointed to the added pressure that LaVar Ball puts on his sons, while also stealing some of their spotlight.
“Frankly, I don’t even like to talk about his dad. I’d rather talk about the kid,” West said during the interview. “His dad, to me … I wouldn’t want a father like that, to be honest with you. Because I think he puts added pressure on his kid.
“You know he loves his kid. You know that. But it should be about his kids, not about him.”
That falls in line with what the popular opinion is.
Yes, LaVar Ball does do a little bit too much at times and has become a caricature, but in the end, he’s really just doing what he thinks is best to boost the profile of his son.
Let’s just hope he can take more of a backseat once Lonzo begins his NBA career.
