Congressman Steve Scalise Shot At GOP Baseball Practice

UPDATE: Congressman Steve Scalise is reportedly in stable condition after being shot in the attack.

Republican House Whip Steve Scalise and others were shot in what is being described as a “deliberate attack” on Wednesday morning.

The 51-year-old congressman, who is a representative for Louisiana, was reportedly shot in the hip during practice for the GOP congressional baseball team. Along with Scalise, two Capitol Hill police agents were also shot.

A suspect is in custody.

Representative Mo Brooks spoke with CNN about the attack.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul thanked Capitol Hill Police for their swift response and reaction, saying things would have been much worse had they not been on the scene.

“Nobody would have survived without the Capitol Hill police,” Paul said, via CNN. “It would have been a massacre without them.”

President Donald Trump and the White House issued a statement on the shooting.

“The Vice President and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely,” President Donald Trump said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders, and all others affected.”

The incident reportedly went on for around ten minutes with more than 50 shots being fired.

Luckily this wasn’t a more tragic situation.
