UFC Fighter Matt Hughes Showing Improvement

UFC fighter and legend Matt Hughes is showing improvement in the hospital. No specifics were given, but his family issued a statement over Hughes’ sister Beth Hughes Ulrici’s Facebook page.

According to an article found on MMAfighting.com, police are still investigating what led to the collision. Hughes was driving his pickup truck, and when attempting to cross the train tracks, was struck by the train on the passenger side door.

Reports indicate that Hughes hasn’t suffered any broken bones or internal injuries.

However, he has been mostly unresponsive for the last week.

“Matt has always been a fighter; but he is now in the biggest fight of his life,” his family said in a statement. “We know he will continue to improve with God’s Grace and Mercy.”

He is currently at HSHS St. John’s Hospital where he is listed as being in stable condition.

During his career, Hughes held the UFC welterweight title several times between 2001 and 2004. He retired from fighting UFC in 2011 with a 45-9 career record.
