Alabama Football: Joe Namath Impressed With Nick Saban, Jalen Hurts

“Broadway” Joe Namath might have made himself a household name while playing for the New York Jets, but he hasn’t forgotten where he came from. The fur-coat wearing quarterback appears as proud as could be by the job that Nick Saban has done leading the Crimson Tide.

Speaking with Ryan Fowler of SEC Country, Namath had nothing but praise for the coach and returning quarterback Jalen Hurts.

“Coach Saban has spoken very highly of Jalen again, how he’s taken the leadership role.” Namath said. “He has gotten more wiser, smarter, more advanced with the offense. … I’m excited about the whole team and I’m thankful for our side.”

Since arriving in Alabama, coach Nick Saban has delivered the Crimson Tide four National Championships. It’s the kind of success that reportedly makes him the highest paid public employee in the entire country.

Saban knows how to pull the right strings and put his team in a position to win.

And now with Jalen Hurts returning for another season in the system, Namath is expecting him to take huge strides forward.

“I think he’ll be sharper. I think everything he does will be a little bit better. We were seconds away … he brought the team back. I thought it was remarkable last season, I think he is remarkable right now for a young man.”

Hurts nearly led a talented Alabama team to a National Championship victory despite playing relatively poorly. The Clemson Tigers defense gave the young quarterback trouble the entire game, and eventually paved the way for victory. With more experience and poise, Namath, along with the rest of the country is expecting a lot more out of Hurts this season.
