When you’re a five-star prospect coming out of high school, you’re afforded a lot of opportunities other players don’t get. As far as Kirk Herbstreit is concerned, this isn’t one of them.
Recently, a couple of Ohio State Buckeye’s recruits have called for Urban Meyer to bench quarterback J.T. Barrett.
Herbstreit doesn’t care for it, and he stated as much explicitly on College GameDay:
“Five-star, seven-star, 10-star, I don’t care,” Herbstreit said on Saturday morning. “Get rid of his ass. Five-star recruits, some of them think they’re more important than they really are. They’re very replaceable, they’re a dime a dozen.”

Herbstreit was referring specifically to five-star recruits Micah Parsons and Jackson Carman, who both tweeted that the Buckeyes should bench Barrett and play redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins instead.
Herbstreit defended Barrett’s play, citing poor protection from his offensive line in front of him.
There were also several dropped passes by Buckeyes receivers that would have resulted in touchdowns; a change at quarterback won’t improve offensive line play or help receivers catch passes that placed right where they should be.
The sentiment to bench Barrett is growing with the passing game having regressed as far back as last season.
If he continues to struggle to put up points the way those around the Ohio State program expected before the season started, Haskins might be getting a chance.
