Lane Kiffin Still Texts Nick Saban, Who Never Texts Him Back

Lane Kiffin has a knack of stirring the pot wherever he goes. While he didn’t leave Alabama under quite the same circumstances as when he left Tennessee, he’s made efforts to stay in contact at both places. Understandably, those in Volunteer-land aren’t interested in hearing from Kiffin. But apparently neither is Nick Saban, head coach at the University of Alabama.
While speaking with ESPN, Kiffin admitted that he attempts to keep in touch with Saban via text message, but never gets a response.

“Kiffin says he still sends text messages to Saban, though Saban doesn’t text back — with anyone. However, Kiffin has conversed with Saban’s wife, Terry, via text message.”

Now the coach of the FAU Owls, Kiffin has managed to stay mostly out of the spotlight while quietly coaching the Owls to an impressive 8-3 record. Their best record in program history was 9-3 in 2004, the inaugural year of the program.
The coach says that he’s learned a lot from Nick Saban while serving as his offensive coordinators. In terms of pregame preparation, there are few that can keep pace with the man who was turned the Crimson Tide into a dynasty again. But it wasn’t all work and no play, and Kiffin has a video to prove it.
He claims to have a video of Saban dancing at one of the karaoke parties Saban throws for the parents of recruits during official visit weekends at Alabama.
“Maybe I will post that,” says Kiffin.
Everyone hopes he does. And if he does, someone will inevitably will sync up the footage of Saban Dancing, to the sounds of him shredding on guitar, creating the ultimate Saban mashup.
