Student-Athlete Exploitation Highlighted In LeBron James Produced HBO Documentary

LeBron James is flexing his muscles off the basketball court and serving as an executive producer for an upcoming HBO Sports documentary titled “Student Athlete.” The documentary will highlight the exploitation of student-athletes in amateur athletics and “how they affect uncompensated athletes and their families.”
James’ manager Maverick Carter and businessman Steve Stoute are producers for the project.
“This is an incredibly important story about the institutional denial of basic human rights for these student-athletes,” the CEO of SpringHill Entertainment, Maverick Carter, said in a statement, via Bleacher Report. “When Steve Stoute [at United Masters] brought us this idea, it was a perfect fit for the kind of stories we want to tell at SpringHill.”
The documentary will premiere Oct. 2.


News of LeBron’s newest project comes just ahead of LeBron’s SpringHill Entertainment is set to debut its basketball-focused YouTube docuseries “Best Shot.” The YouTube series is described as an “inspiring docuseries about a group of high school basketball players who learn about the game of life through basketball.”
It features former NBA star ay Williams serving as the mentor for the young athletes.

“Best Shot” will be available to stream on YouTube every Wednesday starting July 18.
