4 Pac-12 Players Named to Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Rosters

FIn what is considered the most prestigious summer collegiate baseball league for Division-I athletes, the Cape Cod Baseball League announced that four student-athletes from the Pac-12 earned reserve roster spots for in the CCBL All-Star Game that will take place on Sunday, July 27th.

Representing the East division will be UCLA’s Ty Moore, Arizona’s Nate Bannister and USC’s Kyle Davis. The lone All-Star selection for the West division is Arizona’s Kevin Newman, who will start at the game at shortstop.

Moore, an incoming junior outfielder from Mission Viejo, CA, has posted a stat line so far of a .286 batting average, 2 home runs and 19 RBI. Bannister, an incoming junior RHP from Peoria, AZ is 4-0 with a 2.10 ERA over 30.0 innings while striking out 21 hitters and walking 4 over his stint in the CCBL so far. Davis, an incoming junior RHP from Garden Grove, CA is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA over 20 innings while striking out 24 and walking just nine. Lastly, Newman, an incoming junior SS from Poway, CA is hitting .393 (leading the entire Cape Cod Baseball League by 36 points) and has a home run to go with 16 RBI.

The Cape Cod League began play in 1885 with the league running from mid-June through the middle of August. The league currently features teams from Bourne (Braves), Cotuit (Kettleers), Falmouth (Commodores), Hyannis (Harbor Hawks), Wareham (Gateman), Brewster (Whitecaps), Chatham (Anglers), Harwich (Mariners), Orleans (Firebirds) and South Yarmouth (Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox).

In addition, the league has produced many major leaguers over the course of the league’s history. All-Stars such as Ryan Braun, Josh Donaldson, Jacoby Ellsbury, Tim Lincecum, Evan Longoria and Buster Posey are only a handful of the many alumni from the Cape League that went on to have solid careers in Major League Baseball.
