Andrew White leaving Nebraska with graduate transfer

In 2014, the Nebraska Cornhuskers made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998, but it doesn’t look like they are on their way back this year. They will lose a big part of their backcourt as guard Andrew White will leave with a graduate transfer.

The Cornhuskers announced the move in a statement on Monday, which comes for White just a month after he left the NBA Draft and returned to school.

“I spoke with Andrew [Saturday] evening in which he asked me how he can proceed with a release from Nebraska,” Miles said in a statement. “There have been discussions with Andrew and his father about Andrew’s place in our program for months, and this is his decision. Even though I am extremely disappointed, he will be given a complete release as the logistics are handled this week. We will move on. I am truly excited about our team and next season.”

The Cornhuskers were mediocre in the 2015-16 season, going 16-18 and missing the NCAA Tournament. They already lost leading scorer Savon Shields, so losing White, who started his career at Kansas, will be a big blow for the team.

Last season, Andrew White averaged 16.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He will be eligible to play immediately and will have one season of eligibility left this year.
