Blaise Andries commits to Minnesota

Class of 2017 four-star offensive tackle Blaise Andries has committed to Minnesota, giving the Golden Gophers their first commitment for that year. Andries, who currently stars at Minnesota’s Marshall High School in the southwestern part of the state, announced his decision on Twitter.

Andries was also weighing offers from a number of schools and visited Michigan State, Nebraska and Oklahoma over the last month. He will instead head to a scrappy Minnesota team that went 6-7 (2-6 Big Ten) under Jerry Kill (who retired midyear for medical reasons) and Tracy Claeys, and has not won a bowl game since 2004.

This is certainly an interesting decision, as Michigan State and Oklahoma both made the College Football Playoff last season and it can also be argued that Nebraska is in a better position to win than Minnesota is. But Andries clearly wanted to be a Gopher and is set to make that dream come true in a year.

Hopefully, other recruits follow his lead and help bring Minnesota back into prominence.
