Brad Underwood gets emotional talking about Thomas Walkup

The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks had a very impressive run through the NCAA Tournament. As a No. 14 seed, they upset the West Virginia Mountaineers and nearly pulled off an even bigger upset over Notre Dame on Sunday as they were led by senior Thomas Walkup, who had an unbelievable showing in the team’s two games.

Head coach Brad Underwood talked about Walkup after Sunday’s loss, in which the senior scored 21 points, and got pretty emotional during the press conference.

The two have been together for the last four years and Walkup has helped the Lumberjacks to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, in two of which they upset VCU and West Virginia in the first round. Thomas Walkup has been a great asset to the team, averaging 12.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game throughout his career.

Walkup will graduate and Underwood is likely going to be getting offers from programs all over the country. Both of their times with Stephen F. Austin may be coming to an end soon, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t okay to look back on the great careers both of them have had in Nacogdoches.
