Browns claim Cody Kessler will have chance to start

Many expected the Cleveland Browns to select a quarterback at some point in the 2016 NFL Draft, but they never expected them to end up taking USC’s Cody Kessler in the third round on Friday. Now it looks like Kessler could end up having a huge impact in the NFL.

According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, head coach Hue Jackson said that Kessler is going to have the chance to start. He said that the quarterback will compete against Robert Griffin III, who signed with the team just over a month ago.

Kessler had a pretty good career had USC, replacing Max Wittek as the starter in his sophomore season. He threw for over 10,000 yards and 88 touchdowns againsts just 19 interceptions.

Despite those numbers, Cody Kessler did not have a terrific offseason leading up to the draft. He struggled at the Senior Bowl and was not able to perform all that well at the NFL Scouting Combine.

However, if Jackson is able to mold Kessler, he could end up being a decent starter in the NFL.
