Carlton Davis III among four Auburn players arrested for marijuana

The Auburn Tigers are looking to make a big turnaround after a rather disappointing 2015 season. However, the 2016 season could be in for a rough start after four players, including Carlton Davis III, were arrested on Saturday.

The news was originally reported by Tom Green of oanow.com that Davis, Byron Cowart, Ryan Davis, and Jeremiah Dinson were all arrested for marijuana possession. The arrest took place just off campus and was performed by Auburn police.

Currently, the arrest is listed as a Class A misdemeanor, which can include no more than a year of jail time and a $6,000 fine. All four players are sophomores with Carlton Davis and Byron Cowart having played a big role for the team last year and were expected to do the same this year.

“I am aware of the situation and we will handle this matter appropriately,” Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement provided to the Opelika-Auburn News.
