D’Brickashaw Ferguson pens heartfelt retirement letter

Longtime New York Jets offensive tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson decided yesterday to retire after 10 seasons and penned a beautiful, heartfelt letter to the fans today. The letter can be seen below on a post to Ferguson’s Twitter.

Ferguson was drafted by the Jets with the fourth overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, having previously starred for the Virginia Cavaliers. He went on to become an NFL iron man in that he did not miss a single game during his career, making three Pro Bowls along the way and teaming up with center Nick Mangold to form what was, for a time, one of the NFL’s strongest offensive lines.

And though Ferguson’s retirement is unexpected and sure to sadden some Jets fans, there is a silver lining, GM Mike Maccagnan suddenly has an extra $9 million with which to work, meaning that re-signing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick could become an easier task.

But one thing is certain, fans. Replacing a tackle as durable and reliable as Ferguson at this point could prove to be tough and he will certainly be missed.
