FCS No. 2 tackler Gabe Sherrod transfers to Syracuse

Since Dino Babers left Bowling Green to become the new head coach at Syracuse in January, he has made some pretty big changes. He has dismissed three defensive ends for off-field issues in an effort to clean things up for the Orange.

Now, Babers will be getting to replace at least one of those spots and he will do so with one of the nation’s best tacklers. Gabe Sherrod announced earlier this week that he would be ending his career with the Orange in 2016.

This is a big deal for the Orange because Sherrod was second in the country at the FCS level in tackles for loss with Delaware State last season. He will also be eligible to play immediately as he is moving from the FCS to FBS.

Sherrod recorded 25 tackles for loss on the season in 2015. The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that he will “immediately be thrown into the mix with redshirt freshman Jake Pickard being Syracuse’s lone returning scholarship defense end.”

The Orange could be a team to watch out for in 2016.
