Former LSU DT Travonte Valentine two classes away from returning

The LSU Tigers lost a player that could have been a big piece of their defense in Travonte Valentine after he faced some academic troubles. He has spent the last two seasons with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs, but he seems to be very close to making a return to Baton Rouge.

A few months ago, Valentine was given approval from the SEC to return to the Tigers this year, granted he becomes eligible by taking some summer classes.

It was reported on Friday that he passed two of his four classes needed and he should finish up the other two in time to return for training camp.

From the New Orleans Times-Picayune: “Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College defensive tackle Travonte Valentine continues to make strides in the classroom and off the field, as he completed two summer courses, both resulting in B grades, with just two more to go, according to a source. Valentine remains focused on his return to Baton Rouge, stating that he is 330 pounds right now, which we verified with trainers and coaches, signaling a shift in the talented player’s off the field efforts to revitalize what was a promising career.”

Once he finishes up his final two classes with the appropriate grades, he would be eligible for immediate reinstatement with the Tigers. That means he could be on the field for LSU as soon as this year.

Valentine was a four-star member of the Tigers’ 2014 recruiting class. He was also the No. 3 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 7 player in the state of Florida.
