Former NFL QB Shaun King expected to join USF as QB coach

Another former NFL player is about to join the ranks of collegiate coaching. According to 247Sports, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Shaun King is expected to take over as the quarterbacks coach for the University of Southern Florida Bulls within the next week.

King will replace former quarterback coach Daniel Reaves, while Reaves moves over to the tight end coaching position.

USF is hopeful that King will continue the success of the program. The Bulls are coming off an 8-4 season that resulted in an appearance in the 2015 Miami Beach Bowl appearance against 12-2 Western Kentucky University, but WKU topped USF 45-35.

King has built up an impressive resume over his football career. He played college football at Tulane University, leading the Green Wave to an undefeated season and a 41-27 victory over Birmingham Young University in the Liberty Bowl. That same year, he set the record for the best single-season passer rating in Division I-A with 183.3 and finished 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting.

King was selected in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and led them to back-to-back NFC Championship appearances in 1999 and 2000. He was also part of the 2002-03 Buccaneers that won the Super Bowl, although he never played in the game. He continued to play in the NFL until 2006, then played in the CFL.

Since then, he has worked as an analyst for Yahoo! and ESPN.

Now, he will join the coaching ranks in Tampa.
