Frank Martin says Gamecocks got ‘hosed’ by NCAA committee

The South Carolina Gamecocks missed out on the NCAA Tournament despite experiencing a strong resurgence this year, but coach Frank Martin still isn’t happy. Responding to a tweet from pro golfer Tommy Gainey, Martin agreed that his team got “hosed” out of the tournament after going 25-9 (11-7 SEC) for the 2015-16 season.

South Carolina was definitely on the bubble towards the end of the season, but to say that they were indeed “hosed”? Let’s dig a little deeper.

Sure, the Gamecocks’ record was great compared to previous years and Martin has them moving in the right direction, but look at their non-conference schedule. There really wasn’t any major competition there, with the biggest team they played being a Clemson team that pulled off some epic victories in the ACC but also missed out on the big dance.

Besides that, the only major opponents that South Carolina faced were Tulsa and Memphis, though Tulsa did make the First Four and lose to Michigan.

Either way, Martin is a competitive coach and will just use this year to bring South Carolina back even stronger in 2016-17.
