Hines Ward leaves NBC, joining CNN/HLN

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward is making a big career move as he announced on Wednesday that he would be leaving NBC to join arguably the biggest media outlet in the world, CNN, as well as HLN’s Morning Express as a sports contributor.

Ward retired from football in 2012 and shortly after announced that he would be a studio analyst for NBC’s “Football Night in America,” which airs ahead of “Sunday Night Football” throughout the season.

Ward announced his move to CNN and HLN via Twitter on Wednesday.

CNN’s official press release states that Ward will “provide analysis and commentary on major sporting events and breaking news across all CNN platforms, including CNN/U.S., CNN Digital, CNNMoney and CNN International.”

The two-time Super Bowl champion released a statement via CNN thanking the company for the opportunity.

“I’m incredibly grateful to HLN and CNN for welcoming me to their prestigious team,” Hines Ward said in the release. “Throughout my career, I’ve always envisioned myself as more than just a football player and this platform will allow me to express myself in different and unique ways. I’m excited to be able to share my journey and my stories with our audiences, both in the US and worldwide.”
