Illinois guard Tracy Abrams gets sixth season

Two years ago, Illinois guard Tracy Abrams seemed like a promising player for the Fighting Illini. However, he has missed the last two seasons before they even began due to injuries.

However, Abrams is going to get one more shot at his senior season. It was announced on Thursday that he had been granted a sixth season of eligibility heading into the 2016-17 season.

“I am so proud of the perseverance and determination Tracy has displayed through his injuries,” Illinois coach John Groce said in a statement released by the school. “We are looking forward to having him back on the court this season, setting the tone for our team with his leadership, toughness and competitive drive.

Abrams tore his ACL in September ahead of the 2014-15 season and had to sit out the entire year. Then, nearly a year ago, he ruptured his Achilles and missed what was scheduled to be his fifth season with the Fighting Illini.

Tracy Abrams now has a chance to help out the Fighting Illini this year.

In his junior season, he averaged 10.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 33.3 percent from the floor.
