Jim Mora warns Josh Rosen of heading down the Johnny Manziel path

UCLA Bruins head coach Jim Mora has had a lot of praise for his young star quarterback, Josh Rosen. Mora went on record saying the sophomore signal-caller would have been the first quarterback selected in last year’s draft.

Mora also noted that Rosen has the work ethic of stars like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, but he made sure to warn his quarterback about a careless attitude off the field.

Rosen wore a hat earlier this offseason that read, “F*** Trump,” an obvious dig at the presumptive Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump. Most people brushed off the incident as a college freshman having some fun, but Mora saw a lesson to be learned.

Mora made it very clear that Rosen has to focus on football and not get too carried away off the field if he wants to avoid his career crashing and burning like Johnny Manziel.

“If you’re going to go out on Donald Trump’s golf course and wear a hat that says ‘F– Trump’, I said, ‘You’re heading towards Johnny Manziel.’ So, let’s head toward Peyton Manning. Let’s head towards Tom Brady. Let’s head towards Troy Aikman,’ who spent an hour with him on Sunday, which was fantastic…talking to him about the responsibilities of being a quarterback,” Mora noted, via Bruins Nation.

There is no indication that Rosen is a problem child or that he is heading down a dangerous path, but it’s great for his coach to constantly be reminding him of where his focus should be.

Rosen has all of the talent in the world and could become the best quarterback in college football before going on to star in the NFL, but it’s important that he stays close to his coach and continues to absorb that wisdom. It will only help him in the long run.
