Kroy Biermann could wind up being steal of NFL free agency

Former Atlanta Falcons defensive end Kroy Biermann is still looking for a team, and it’s truly shocking that he doesn’t have a contract yet.

The former fifth-round pick last met with the Buffalo Bills and, though his overall versatility is something that defense-oriented coaches like Rex Ryan dream of, a deal was not struck. Moreover, the fact that Biermann has not yet found a new deal yet puts him in a position to wind up being the biggest steal of NFL free agency this year.

Look at it this way. For his career, since being drafted by Atlanta out of Montana back in 2008, Biermann has 333 tackles with three forced fumbles and 23.5 sacks. In addition, his 4.5 sacks in 2014 actually led the Falcons. That may just be a testament to how weak Atlanta’s defense was that year, but there’s one thing that Biermann has that many other players at his position do not: intangibles.

Simply put, Biermann has been a vocal leader and incredible locker room presence during his NFL career. He can do everything from play as a starter to a situational guy and doesn’t even mind playing on special teams if that is where he is needed. More importantly, Biermann also once stepped up as the Falcons’ kicker for a game after Matt Bryant was injured. That type of versatility can’t be taught.

Moreover, Kroy Biermann is still just 30 years old and is itching to play. If he were done, he would have said so already. Give the man a deal, and he’ll earn his keep by any means necessary.

At that point, whichever team lands him could wind up being the envy of other squads that passed on Biermann.
