Lane Kiffin received big payday from USC after firing

Lane Kiffin is one of the highest-paid offensive coordinators in all of college football. He has tried his hand as a head coach all over the country and his most tumultuous run was his three and a half-year stint with the USC Trojans.

Kiffin was fired in the middle of the 2013 season after an 0-2 start in the PAC-12. However, he was still owed a pretty hefty payday from the Trojans and received a $2.7 million payout from the team in 2014, his first year as offensive coordinator with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

His big payout was just $200,000 less than then-athletic director Pat Haden’s $2.9 million salary. To also put Kiffin’s number into perspective, he was paid just $1 million less than Steve Sarkisian, who received $3.7 million during his first season with the Trojans in 2014.

I think Lane Kiffin’s firing from USC has worked out in his favor. He has gone on to help the Crimson Tide to two SEC championships and the 2016 College Football Playoff national championship last year.
