LSU G Keith Hornsby out for the season

LSU Tigers senior guard Keith Hornsby will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to correct a hernia, according to a since-deleted tweet from the basketball program.

A former transfer from UNC-Asheville, Hornsby excelled as a shooter this season. He averaged 13.1 points per game and shot 49 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from three-point range. Unfortunately, LSU struggled as a whole and Hornsby suffered his hernia in February.

This means that LSU, who went 18-13 (11-7 SEC) during the regular season, will need to enter the SEC Tournament without its best three-point shooter. Freshman sensation Ben Simmons will likely be leaned heavily upon as a result and while he is talented, the Tigers’ attack cannot be one-sided in the postseason.

Moreover, Hornsby has his basketball future to consider. He is of no use to LSU if not 100 percent healthy, even if it does mean that the Tigers miss out on this year’s NCAA Tournament
