NCAA baseball tournament 2016: Louisville clinches Super Regional berth

The Louisville Cardinals came into the 2016 NCAA baseball tournament as the No. 2 national seed. The team proved worth of that seed as they swept their region to advance to a fourth straight Super Regional.

Louisville locked down the first berth in the tournament this year when they blew through the competition and met up with the Wright State Raiders Sunday afternoon. They powered past the three seed thanks to a fourth inning two-run blast by Nick Solak.

The Cardinals met up with the Western Michigan Broncos in the first game, downing them 6-1. Their next test was against the second-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes, but Louisville didn’t seem to have a problem, plucking their leaves with a 15-3 drubbing.

The ACC regular season champions now wait for the winner of the Nashville Regional, which could be decided Monday night. Their best two-out-of-three series begins next weekend and will be played at Jim Patterson Stadium.
