Nebraska DL Greg McMullen leaves to focus on academics

Many people tend to forget that college student-athletes are just that, student-athletes. The classroom is supposed to come first and, sadly, it sometimes does not, but for Nebraska defensive lineman Greg McMullen that is not the case.

Head coach Mike Riley announced that McMullen was taking a leave of absence to turn his focus back on academics. There is no indication on how long he will be gone from the team.

If McMullen is gone for any period of time, this could be a huge blow for the team. After going 6-7 and winning the Foster Farms Bowl, they are looking to make a run at the Big Ten championship in 2016.

Greg McMullen has been a big piece for the Cornhuskers the last two seasons. He started 26 games over the last two years and was a big piece for the team in the middle of the defensive line.
