Oregon needs to ‘speed up the process’ with Dakota Prukop

The Oregon Ducks are once again going with a FCS transfer to lead them into the upcoming college football season. After the success of Vernon Adams Jr. last year, Oregon is hoping Montana State transfer Dakota Prukop can do much of the same in 2016.

Right now, however, Prukop doesn’t seem to be falling in line with the Ducks’ program as they are trying to get him acclimated to what the team is trying to do.

“Dakota needs to constantly go through signal practice because it has to become second nature,” quarterbacks coach David Yost said. “We have to speed up the process. He did a good job in January when he got here to learn it so he was able to compete right away in spring ball, but now he needs to take it even farther so that when we start two-a-days he’s at Travis’ level.”

When it comes to the quarterback position, both Prukop and true freshman Travis Jonsen seem to be on the same level. Either signal-caller could win the starting job and it could mean bad news for the senior playing his final year of eligibility.

During his career with the Bobcats, Dakota Prukop threw for over 5,500 yards and 46 touchdowns, while rushing for over 1,700 yards and another 24 scores. It certainly looks like he could fit into their offense, but he just needs to get up to speed first.

The Ducks open the season against UC Davis on Sept. 3.
