Providence G Kris Dunn is Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week

Providence Friars guard Kris Dunn has been named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, according to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

Dunn, a junior from Connecticut, averaged 23 points, eight rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game last week as Providence beat Butler and St. John’s to improve to 14-1 on the year and rise to No. 8 in the rankings. Dunn shot 52 percent from the field and 60 percent from long range.

And that’s just over a two-day stretch. On the season, Dunn is averaging 17.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and a Big East best 7.3 assists per game as well as an eye-popping 3.1 steals. He is shooting 48 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point land. Needless to say, he is taking Providence to the next level and could give Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield a serious run for his money in the National Player of the Year race.
