After the Philadelphia Eagles selected Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the belief was the former North Dakota State star would sit and develop while veteran Sam Bradford led the team.
However, early reports out of Philly indicate Wentz is further along in getting acclimated to the NFL than would have been expected at this time.
According to Matt Lombardo of NJ.com, Wentz appears to be ahead of Bradford in learning new head coach Doug Pederson’s offense. This could certainly create an interesting dynamic for the Eagles.
If Wentz continues to stay ahead of Bradford — which wouldn’t be surprising considering the vast amount of West Coast Offense concepts he ran during his time at North Carolina State — the Eagles hand may be forced.
After all, why would you pay a quarterback $18 million to sit on the bench if he is your best chance at winning and running the offense you want? Just don’t tell that to Sam Bradford or we may have another trade request on our hands.
