Report: Detroit Lions’ Ameer Abdullah out until training camp

Back in January, Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah underwent surgery for a shoulder injury. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Abdullah could be inactive until the beginning of training camp.

In the report, it said that Dr. James Andrews had fixed a torn labrum that the running back had sustained in a game during mid-December of last season. It also gave the Lions something to optimistic about, stating that Abdullah is recovering even faster than previously expected.

The team will proceed cautiously through the remainder of spring.

Getting Abdullah back and healthy is incredibly important for the Lions. He’s the team’s starting running back, and not easily replaceable. He led the Lions with 597 rushing yards, as well as the NFL in kick return yardage at 1,077.

The second-round pick from last year’s draft was active in all 16 games of last season, racking up 143 carries and catching 25 passes.
