Rick Pitino comments on his future with Louisville

Longtime Louisville coach Rick Pitino has done a fine job of guiding the basketball team to a strong season in spite of an alleged prostitution scandal that has rocked the program the past six months, so badly that Louisville self-imposed a postseason ban from both the ACC and NCAA tournaments.

There has also been a great deal of speculation about how this scandal, of which Pitino has denied any knowledge, could affect the Hall of Famer’s job status at the university. Speaking to the press recently, Pitino commented on the entire situation and his words were posted to Twitter by local sports anchor Eric Crawford.

The words are vintage Pitino, as he has always been a selfless individual who puts the good of team and his players above all else. There has been no indication that his job is in jeopardy, but one never knows when the situation is what it is.

Pitino has been with the Cardinals since 2001 and has gone 375-127 since then while winning a national championship in 2013. He also came within an inch of his eighth career Final Four last season and has turned the Cardinals into the perennial contender they once were under longtime coach Denny Crum, who Pitino succeeded.

That all being said, though the 63-year-old Pitino himself doesn’t expect that he will be leaving the program any time soon, it also sounds like he wouldn’t be entirely surprised if, at the end of the season, the university decided to let him go for the sake of scrubbing itself of anyone and anything tied to the prostitution scandal.
